I said good bye to this:
It's a hybrid Midas Cichlid that was bullying all the South American Cichlids in the tank. I think it might be a racial thing- or it was something to do with drugs. At any rate, I gave him the concrete garage floor thwack** treatment and four other fish swim happily in my wall now. So there PETA. Sacrifice one for the good of many. That's my new motto.**sidenote: I'm a liar. Although I was frustrated with the bullying and evil ways of this large hybrid, and the costly deaths of the more expensive fish in the tank, I couldn't thwack him. There is a fish store a few towns over that has taken my large fish in the past, and as long as they are not parasitic or too sick, they will continue to do so. Sometimes I get plants, or feeder fish and sometimes I get nothing, and the drive over with the sloshing pail is always fun.

It was bullying the others? How? Not that I don't trust your judgment, I'm just curious as to how one fish will bully other fish (I have zero experience here).

We have a bully goldfish and he is ticking off the other, weaker fish. Somefish is gonna die in our tank this week, I just know it!

yes. they can be like that. I have been keeping Cichlids here for 4 years and have resold 10 inch Oscars that ate $40 breeder fish, and sold one large hybrid cichlid who bit me when I was moving rocks. The SA cichlids are aggressive fish and fun to watch during mating and egg laying. I used to have a 120 gal tank and was always breeding something. Now, in this smaller tank (37gal) I just enjoy seeing them swim and spit rocks-- but the bullying thing left me with a Firemouth whose tail is half gone and scales missing from the heads of two others-- so, that orange fish punched his own ticket.
We had a fish tank full of fish once. They slowly started dying off and we couldn't figure out why, until one was left.. the bully. I hear ya and well sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do.
And very cool that you were a personal trainer. I started using one last year and did up until the last month and a half of my pregnancy when I could no longer work out. I feel like I should call her but, with our gym a mess (under construction) and the fact that I don't always have time to workout, I figure I should wait until I can commit. In the meantime I am slowly getting back into action. Thanks for the compliments :).
next time instead of smacking fishes on concrete, do your homework! or give that fish away to someone who knows how to take care of it!

To the lady who killed that beautiful fish, you are one uneducated broad. While you sit at home all day typing in your ingnorant blog, why dont you research the fish you buy? I know your kids are at school ad husband is at work and the pool boy in that butt, but seriously hit yourself on the concrete.

I guess many of the name-callers didn't bother to read the whole article or have no comprehension. I too have a fish I would like to stomp on but he is still alive and well although he cost me several fish.
I finally found him a tank mate or two he had respect for. LFS wouldn't take him due to aggression. I guess he was too used to having a tank all to himself and never became socialized.

What you've done constitutes as animal cruelty. Did you really have no idea how aggressive Midas are? They cannot be kept with other fish unless you have an extremely large tank. It's a shame this innocent animal had to die for your stupidity. The next time you get a pet (which I hope is never-- for their sakes), I hope you'll do your homework first.
